Difference Between SSC CGL & SSC MTS – Which to choose and why ?

SSC CHSL – Introduction 

Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination is a national-level exam that allows the selection of candidates into General Central Service Group-C non-gazetted, non-ministerial posts in various ministries, departments, and offices of the Govt of India.

SSC CHSL – Age Limit and Education Qualification 

Although there is not much difference in the age limit of SSC CHSL and MTS, one should consider all the factors.

Minimum Age-18 years old 

Maximum Age – 27 years old

The education qualification depends upon the post you are willing to apply for. There are two different eligibility criteria. Let’s look at them.

  • The one willing to apply for LDC/ JSA, PA/ SA, or DEO (except DEOs in C&AG) must have passed the 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
  • The one willing to apply for a Data entry operator in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) must have passed 12th Standard in the Science stream with Mathematics as one of the subject from a recognized.

Important points to remember about the SSC CHSL exam pattern-

  • Tier I is in online mode. 

• There are multiple choice questions and skill typing tests in the Tier II exam.

• From 2023 onwards, students don’t have to take the Tier 3 exam.

Staff Selection Commission Multi-Tasking Staff exam allows the aspirant to get selected in various departments and offices under the Central Government of India. 

SSC MTS- Age Limit and Qualification

Here is the age limit for SSC MTS.

Minimum Age– of 18 

Maximum – 25 years old

Education Qualification 

To be able to apply for the SSC MTS exam, the candidate must have passed the 12th grade from a recognized board.

Salary –

The candidates in MTS get a grade pay of Rs 1800. After the allowances and other benefits, the in-hand salary is 25,591.

SSC MTS- Work Profile 

  • Maintaining the records 
  • Cleanliness and maintaining the section/unit.
  • Carrying the files and other document within the building.
  • A task like photocopying, sending files, or FAX must be done by an MTS worker.
  • You must assist in day-to-day work.
  • Cleaning and dusting
  • You have to drive a car if possess a valid license.

SSC MTS- Growth 

According to the rule of the Central Civil Accounts Service (Lower Division Clerk, Group ‘C’ post) Recruitment Rules 2010, the 5% seats in the grade of LDCs have to be filled by promotion on a seniority basis through common “Range of Seniority” from amongst Group ‘C’ staff (Multi-Tasking Staff) who have three years regular service in post with the Grade Pay of Rs. 1800. Here is the promotion scale for SSC MTS.

  • The first promotion will take place after three years of service and will make a grade pay of Rs. 1900.
  • The second promotion will take place after three years of service and will make a grade pay of Rs. 2000.
  • The Third Promotion will take place after five years of service and will make a grade pay of Rs. 2400
  • And so, on up to Rs. 5400/-

SSC MTS and CHSL is an opportunity for students to get a seat in different government offices but vary in terms of career growth, education qualification, age limit, and other factors.
