CBSE has released the 2024 CTET Exam Syllabus for all candidates who wish to take the exam. The CTET syllabus is vast, and this article will guide you through all the topics candidates must cover to pass the exam.

CTET exam takes place twice a year and recruits suitable candidates to teach grades 1-8. Candidates can download the CTET syllabus PDF for ease of preparation and clarity.

CTET 2024 has got some changes in its syllabus. The exam will take place in two parts – Paper -1 and paper -2. CTET Paper 1 syllabus covers the prescribed syllabus of NCERT for classes 1st to 5 th, but the difficulty level and Standard of the questions could be up to the secondary stage. For CTET Paper- 2, the syllabus covers the prescribed syllabus of NCERT for classes 6 to 8. Candidates can check the Hindi/English syllabus for Exam 1 and 2 on the official website.

CTET Syllabus for Paper 1

Candidates wishing to teach classes 1-5 should qualify for paper -1.For this, you must understand the 2023 Paper 1 CTET syllabus. The syllabus has five sections – Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Environmental Studies, and Mathematics. All these sections have a total of 150 points.

CTET Paper 1 Syllabus- Child Development and Peadalogy

The subject Child development and Pedagogy consist of 30 Questions. Here are some important topics –

Child development:-

The Child Development (Primary School Child) – Consists of 15 Questions

  • The Principles of the development of children, Influence of Heredity & Environment and the Concepts of child-centered and progressive education
  • Gender as a social construct: The Gender roles, gender-bias and educational practices
  • Understanding differences based on languages, gender, caste, community, religion
  • The distinction between The Assessment for learning and assessment of school-Based learning- Assessment, Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation: perspective and practice
  • The Concept of development and its relationship with learning and The Socialization processes- Social world and the children (Teacher, Parents, Peers)

The Concept of the Inclusive Education and Understanding Children with Special Requirements- 5 Questions

  • Addressing the needs of the children with learning difficulties, impairment, etc., and Addressing the Talented, Creative, Specially abled Learners

The Learning and Pedagogy – 10 Questions

  • Child as a problem solver and as a scientific investigator
  • The basic processes of teachings and learning:- Preparation strategies, social context of learning, and learning as a social activity.

CTET Syllabus Paper 1- Language 1

The language 1 exam consists of 30 questions.

Language Comprehension

Reading unseen passages – two passages, one prose or drama and one poem with questions on comprehension, inference, grammar, and verbal ability (Prose passage may be literary, scientific, narrative, or discursive)

Pedagogy of Language Development: Learning and acquisition principles of Language, Teaching role of listening and speaking; function of language and how children use it as a tool, Language Skills and Evaluating language comprehension and proficiency: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

CTET Paper 1 Syllabus- Language 2

Language 2 consists of 30 questions.

Comprehension: Two unseen essays (prose or literature or narrative or science) with questions about comprehension, grammar, and language skills

Language 2

Learning and acquisition principles of Language, Teaching role of listening and speaking; function of language and how children use it as a tool, The language Skills and Evaluating language comprehension and proficiency: speaking, listening, reading and writing, teaching-learning materials: Textbook, multimedia materials, multilingual resource of the classroom Remedial Teaching.

The mathematics exam consists of 30 questions.

CTET Syllabus 2024- Paper 2

CTET Paper 2 is used to recruit secondary school teachers. Those wishing to teach grades 6-8 must pass the CTET Paper 2 exam. To prepare for the exam, candidates must know the detailed syllabus for CTET 2023 paper 2. The CTET Paper 2 syllabus 2023 will have five sections – Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics and Science, and Social Studies/Social Sciences sections. The total mark of all these questions is 150 points.

CTET Paper 2 – Child Development and Pedagogy Syllabus

Here are some important topics –

  • Child development (elementary school students): Developmental concepts and their relation to learning, principles of child development, genetic and environmental influences, socialization processes: the social world and children (teachers, parents, peers), critical perspectives, constructive intelligence, multidimensional intelligence, language and thinking, gender as a social construct, gender roles, gender bias, and pedagogical practice.
  • Concept of Inclusive education and understanding children with special needs

CTET Paper 2 – Language 2 syllabus

  • Comprehension: Two unseen passages of prose (prose or literature or fiction or science) with questions on comprehension, grammar, and language skills
  • Language Development Pedagogy:
  • Learn and acquire
  • Principles of language teaching
  • The role of listening and speaking, the function of language, and how children use it as a tool
  • Examine the role of grammar in language learning to communicate ideas orally and in writing, the challenges of language teaching in a heterogeneous classroom, language difficulties, mistakes, and barriers

CTET Syllabus Paper 2 – Mathematics and Science

This section consists of 30 math questions and 30 science questions. The CTET syllabus for both is as follows:

  • Math syllabus: number systems, knowing our numbers, playing with numbers, whole numbers, negative and whole numbers, fractions, algebra, introduction to algebra, ratios, and proportions, the nature of math/reasoning, the place of math in the curriculum, Language Mathematics, Community Mathematics, Assessment, Remedial Education, Instructional Problems.
  • Science Syllabus: Food, Food Sources, Food Composition, Clean Food, Materials, Materials for Daily Use, Living World, Natural Phenomena, Natural Resources, Methods/Integrated Methods, Observations/Experiment/Discoveries (Scientific Method), Innovations, Text Materials/Tools, Assessments – Cognitive/Psychomotor/Affective, Problematic, Remedial.

CTET Paper 2 – Social Studies/Social Sciences Syllabus

Social studies have two parts. The first part covers history, geography, and social and political life, and the second p deals with pedagogical issues. The ratio of questions is 40:20.

Q: What is the CTET test?

Ans: The CTET stands for Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), a qualification exam that decides the qualification of competitors as Classes 1 to 8 educators in focal schools like KVS, NVS, and so on.

Q: How would I be able to check my CTET result?

Ans: To check CTET results 2021-22, candidates need to follow the steps given below-

  • Visit the official website site – content.nic.in.
  • Click on the ‘CTET December 2022 Result interface.
  • Enter the details, such as roll number and date of birth, and click submit.
  • CTET result will display on your screen.
  • Download the scorecard and take the printout of the equivalent.

Q: Is B.Ed. expected for CTET?

Ans: Yes, B.Ed. is expected for the CTE. It’s anything but a necessary prerequisite. One of the CTET qualification rules states that candidates who have finished graduation with at least 50% imprints and a B.Ed. degree can show up for the CTET test.

Q: Which section has the highest weightage for the CTET exam?

Ans: The Child Development & Pedagogy Section of the Paper 1 has the highest weightage. Whereas in Paper 2, Mathematics & Science and Social science/ Social Studies section has the highest weightage.
